What is GSIS and Who Can Borrow?

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is the social insurance institution for Philippine government employees — the public sector equivalent of SSS. If you work for any government agency, you are automatically a GSIS member.

Who is covered: National and local government employees, state universities, public school teachers, AFP, and PNP members. Membership is automatic and mandatory.

Types of GSIS Loans

1. Multi-Purpose Loan (MPL)

The most commonly used. For any personal need — medical, education, home repairs, emergencies. No questions asked.

6% per annum — GSIS loans have the lowest interest rate of all government loans in the Philippines. If you're a government employee and need a large amount, GSIS MPL is almost always the best financial choice.

Eligibility Requirements

How to Apply Online (Step by Step)

1Register or Log In to eGSISMO

Go to gsis.gov.ph → click eGSISMO. Register with your GSIS policy number and personal details.

2Go to Loan Application

Click the Loans section from the dashboard. Select the loan type you want (e.g. Multi-Purpose Loan).

3Upload UMID Photo

Upload a clear photo of yourself holding your UMID card. JPEG or PDF format, must be fully readable.

4Complete and Submit

Fill out the application form, review your loan amount and monthly amortization, then submit. You'll receive an email confirmation.

5Receive Funds

Processing takes 3–5 business days. Funds are credited to your GSIS UMID ATM card or designated bank account.

Repayment

For all GSIS loans, repayment is automatically deducted from your monthly salary. Your agency remits it to GSIS — you don't need to do anything.
